What did you think of the appearance of the trap in France?

I was a little young when the trap arrived in France, at the dawn of 2013. But I had already been following rap heavily for 1-2 years. So I lived it head-on. It was a rather radical and rapid appearance after the emergence of the Chief Keefs, etc… across the Atlantic.

For you, how trap has impacted the world of French rap?

This musical genre immediately appealed to and spoke to rappers who go through the same things, or more or less, as a Lil Durk in OBlock. For example, 13 Block, it was like the trigger; people thought they were liars when they arrived, but they and many trappers were very sincere. It made it possible to express and script violence and all its lexical field in a more colorful and “harsh” way, ex Kaaris, Gradur a little later, etc.

What do you think of the evolution of the current from the beginning of the 2010s to today?

Paradoxically, it is easier to "break through" today than in 2010, because there are more channels and less concentration of power by the majors. However, the cake is not as large as people imagine, so it's a tiny part that crams. But with a little savvy, you can + easily make a living from music today, that's undeniable.

We lost a bit in level in terms of text qualities, but the artists are much more melodious and have wider palettes. It's a bit of a win-win (there are still very good lyricists).

With the effect of streaming do you think trap can disappear to sell more commercial albums?

Regardless of the musical style. The real goal is to make music that speaks to people, that's what sells.

Kaaris had a major influence in your opinion?

Kaaris's influence is somewhat stifled and forgotten by the character he was playing at that time. Not so much feat, very closed, no really signed artist or label created. The influence is also measured by the transmission, with Kaaris there was none.

In a way everyone has been influenced by him a bit due to the Black Gold level, in the other not so much.

Have the clashes changed the movement?

Although it's good for fun, not really. But it's good for the performance of rappers, because it's still a sport, and it pushes them to their limits. But for once, it did not change much ... on the other hand, it has extinguished many careers.
